The Mysterious Musings of a Precarious Heart

  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blurb:

The Paine’s new home on Zephyr Street was a fresh start for the young family but the comfort of their new sanctuary quickly fades when a stranger invades their picturesque home and tarnishes everything that they hold dear. Their daughter Lilac’s life is forever changed and her troubles bring them more than their fair share of sorrow.

My Review:

S.J. Dennery’s writing style draws the reader in by injecting situation we all face, no matter our age, class, or gender. I'm amazed that this book was written by a high school student. It's a young adult novel written with that age group in mind, but it was written in a manner that allows an adult to savor the message the story has to offer.

From the start, I sensed this would be a unique story and it met and exceeded my expectation.  The main character Lilac Payne is a high school student who lives in an era unlike our own, on earth after it went through a transformation beyond our wildest imaginings.

Lilac's the girl next door, but not the kind you'd expect. She's not drop dead gorgeous with immaculate hair with a body shape that other girls would envy, but like most teens, she wants to fit in. If that didn't make her life difficult enough, her peers ridiculed her every chance they got. It took a toll on Lilac, a teenager who happened to be a different breed of human. Thankfully, she makes friends who help her through the difficult times to come.

Budding friendships, deception, betrayal, and unimaginable losses play a central part of this young adult mystery. The ending, is a memorable one, so pay attention, clues lie in unexpected places, but most of all, you won’t know the truth until the very end. I won’t give anything away; you’ll have to read the book to find out for yourself. The Mysterious Musings of a Precarious Heart is a book any parent can buy for their teenager and not have to worry about them stumbling upon graphic sexual content or questionable behavior that is fashioned in a way that makes it look cool or acceptable.

I highly recommend The Mysterious Musings of a Precarious Heart to readers of paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and coming of age mysteries.

I give this book a well deserved 5 Stars. I would even read it to a teenager.
